On any given night, nearly 50,000 veterans are homeless, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Working with organizations across Indiana and the nation, the Military Family Research Institute is working to reduce that number.
MFRI’s Family Stand Down Manual is a guide that communities can use to plan and produce their own Stand Down event. At these events, homeless or at-risk veterans and their families can receive food, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, clothing, resume writing assistance and other services.
Using this guide, your community can help veteran and military families manage the transitions and adjustments of civilian life. The guide contains explanations, procedures, schedules, spreadsheets, scripts, forms, flyers, grant application examples and letters. There is also information for volunteers and vendors. Additional information and documents are included in the appendix and online.
