About
In 2014, Joining Community Forces Indiana (JCFI) was created to serve service members, veterans, and their families across the state. An outgrowth of the Obama administration’s Joining Forces initiative, JCFI educates nongovernmental organizations, departments of state government, corporations, policymakers, local leaders, and works to build and maintain robust working relationships among Indiana communities.
In a nutshell, JCFI works to bring together professionals who serve military-connected families, address key and emerging issues that impact families, and bring awareness of local and state level efforts that exist across Indiana. At its core, JCFI is rooted in the collective impact model for promoting social change.
Over the years, JCFI has formed four initiatives:
- The JCFI Executive Committee advises on top and emerging issues that impact military-connected families across Indiana.
- The three state-level, state-led working groups work to address these identified top and emerging issues. Currently, these working groups address suicide prevention for the service member, veteran, and family community; financial literacy for recently separated military members; and care for women veterans.
- Approximately 10 JCFI county-level coalitions exist across Indiana. Each coalition aims to bring together local professionals who serve military-connected folks to bridge awareness of programs, services, and supports.
- Each year, the Battlemind to Home Summit convenes a variety of experts to inform and educate Indiana professionals on the critical issues facing military-connected families.
